Minutes for October 7, 2021  

Opening Prayer – The monthly meeting of the Unity of South Sound (USS) Board started at 6:30 PM (online via Zoom)  with an opening prayer by Rev. Denese. 
Board of Trustee (BOT) members Michele Millsap, David Sandall-Hill, Lisa Hagen, Nancy Jackson, and Rev. Denese  Shellink were in attendance. We have a quorum. 
Check In – Board members checked in with one another.  
MONTHLY REPORTS – calling out exceptions/concerns only 
Approval of agenda 
Approval of Secretary’s Report / Board Minutes – Michele submitted the September minutes by email, and  they were approved by email. 
Counting Tithes & Check Signing – David will be in charge of organizing the sign ups. October sign ups: o 10/10: David - Nancy 
o 10/17: David - Nancy 
o 10/24: David - Lisa 
o 10/31: Nancy - Lisa 
Tithe Report – Lisa submitted the September tithe report by e-mail. Approval: one abstained, the remaining  members approved. Denese made a suggestion to looking at our tithe amounts and suggested moving tithes to  1/3 to Global Unity Organization (Global Unity Organization: Unity Worldwide Ministries, Unity World  Headquarters, Silent Unity), 1/3 to Regional or Local Unity Ministries (Unity NW Region, or Local Unity Church)  and 1/3 Local Charities, Lisa will look into history of our tithing and we will bring back next month for discussion.  See attached

Minister’s report – see attached.  
Social Media Report – see attached. 
Date was decided for Leadership Development Class, November 6th at 10:00 am. New board members will be  invited to attend.

Update on Minister Search Committee – Search Committee is still vetting (2) candidates. Looked at having  candidate #2 speak at church on 10/31 and inviting candidate #1 out on November 14th. David is stepping in as  Board Representative on Search Committee will let Board know when vetting is complete. Board will have brief  meeting to firm up details on Search Committee findings and invitations to candidates.  
Fundraiser – It was decided not to have a auction this year, due to Covid.  
Michele will take lead and Nancy will fill in as needed. Board explored various options on fundraiser. Michele  will reach out to Al Hove for help on how to achieve our goals. Denese brought forth idea of having a gift for  highest donor, trip to Unity Village. We will begin fundraiser as soon as possible and run until the end of the  year. It was also noted that Unity Of South Sound was started in October 1972, October 2022 will be our 50th Anniversary. 
2022 Budget Process – Michele will assist Lisa in this process of setting up 2022 budget.  
New Board Members – There are (2) people being considered for Board Members Misty Carman and Jennifer  Lambert. David will get applications out tomorrow 10-8 and ask that they have them returned by October 15th. It was noted by Lisa that both candidates are members of Unity of South Sound. 
Lease Amendment – Lease Amendment has not been signed. David will meet with owners and get Amendment  formalized. 
Action Items: 
Rev. Denese – Look at retreats that are upcoming at Unity Village 
Michele – Reach out to Al Hove on fundraiser 
David – Send out new board applications 10/8 – Get Lease Amendment formalized - Bring back minister vetting report  
Lisa – Setup dates with Michele when to work with 2022 Budget -Lisa will look at our tithing structure and brng  back next month. 
Closing Prayer Nancy closed the meeting with a prayer and the meeting ended at 8:36 pm.  Next Month’s Board Meeting is N ovember 4th 2021

Like a Town Hall Meeting: Meet with community, Introduce tenets of Transitional Ministry and question and answer exploration.  Update congregation on Search Team progress.  Visioning session for new minister.      Next one October 24th.

Fridays, 3:00 – 5:00 pm on 2nd & 4th of the month.

Introduced Compassionate Connections – how to be the presence of all is well and how to deal effectively with conflict and stress situations.  This practice really supports Emotional Intelligence in self and others.

Connections and training once per month on Zoom calls.  August meeting, Janine & Lisa were absent.  We postponed some of the teachings until September.  September was also postponed due to Search team.  Next TBD.
